Exciting news! Coto Academy is opening a fourth location in Shibuya this autumn! Our commitment has always been to make learning the Japanese language fun and accessible, and we can’t wait to share our mission with the lively community in Shibuya!
Shibuya is a fantastic location to learn Japanese because it’s home to language exchange meetups, cafes — and fun things to do. We can’t reveal too much about our new Shibuya school yet, but we can promise you that it will be one of our larger schools, offering more available spots for anyone looking to start or improve their Japanese language skills!

Our Story
Our original company, ILS (Iidabashi Language School), was founded in 2000 by four professional Japanese language teachers committed to volunteer teaching. We wanted to help students learn to enjoy life. That same vision and mission continue today as we continue to grow and expand.
Today, we have campuses in Yokohama, Azabujuban, and an online school, all thanks to the support of our amazing students, staff, and teachers. We wouldn’t be where we are without them. We hope that we can continue to enrich your lives and grow together by doing our best to learn Japanese!
