Lunch Tour in Kagurazaka

Have you ever been to Kagurazaka? It is an enchanting neighborhood located 5 minutes walking from the Coto Japanese Academy, where you can find many shops, fancy cafés, traditional and modern restaurants. Every month, we organize a lunch tour in one of the many delicious restaurants around this place. If you want to join the September tour and discover Kagurazaka, mail us and make your reservation now!

Let’s exchange conversation in Japanese at a standing bar that is 5 minutes from the Coto Language Academy! Everyone is welcomed to join us after your class or work. Seize this opportunity to expand your social circles and level up your Japanese conversational skills with the teachers who will be participating in the event!

Learn how to prepare norimaki easy for your home parties!
There are many ways of preparing Japanese sushi and every month we organize a cooking class perfect for you to learn more about it! This month, we introduce the way to make “kazari norimaki”. Once you have learned it, you will never forget! Have fun learning how to make this Japanese delicious dish with us and take up the challenge to create norimaki beautiful for the eye and delicious for your palate!

Join Local festival and Omikoshi experience in Iidabashi

Are you up for the Omikoshi challenge with the locals?
The Tsukudo-jinja Shrine Festival is held mid-September in Iidabashi Chiyoda Ward. Every year, Coto Japanese Academy offers you the chance to participate and to discover the taste of a local cultural event.
Grab this unique experience to share a Japanese traditional event with the community. Put on a happi (short jacket) and carry an Omikoshi (a portable shrine) like a Japanese! Enjoy the festival day with the locals of Iidabashi, eager to share their culture with foreigners.

Calligraphy Class 書道クラス
Wednesday, September 14th, 12:40-13:55 at Coto Japanese Academy 1F
If you are interested in learning how to draw each and every stroke in the Japanese Kanji character, this event is for you! Every month, Coto Japanese Academy will hold a calligraphy class. Learn the basics of calligraphy along with the artistic way of writing kanji, you will be practicing on three characters as shown below. The instructor, Wakana Shingae, is a professional calligrapher. Grab this opportunity to experience the traditions of Japan and participate in our calligraphy class! Booking available at the reception (3F).

Real Japanese Sword Cutting Experience 試斬体験!
Thursday, September 15th, 18:30-21:15 at Ryuseikan Dojo in Kudanshita
Not a toy. Not a cheap copy. This is your chance to grab and experience cutting with a real Japanese sword. Do you know what Iaido is? Iaido is a Japanese martial art that “assumes” that you are in front of a dangerous enemy. The Iaido not only teaches you to be aware and capable of quickly drawing the sword and responding to a sudden attack but also the correct etiquette and postures to do it smoothly. This kind of dojos rarely allows beginners to use a Japanese sword 真剣 (Shinken). That is why you cannot miss this unique experience of holding and using a real traditional katana!
