Coto Japanese Institute, our new full-time Japanese language school opening in October 2026, is excited to open its very first pre-application. Through this online pre-application, students interested in studying at our brand-new school can submit an inquiry and begin their journey with us. From there, we’ll gradually guide applicants through the screening and application process as we prepare to welcome our first cohort of students.

What is Coto Japanese Institute?
Coto Japanese Institute is a full-time Japanese language school located in Kokubunji, a charming and student-friendly town in western Tokyo. The institute is designed to support students at both beginner and advanced levels through our one-year language learning program.
We created Coto Japanese Institute as a natural extension of our mission at Coto Academy that we’ve upheld for over 25 years: to use the Japanese language as a tool to help everyone reach their dreams. Our goal is to help build a community where people from around the world can create their own paths, stay true to themselves, and call Japan their new home.
While Coto Academy does not sponsor student visas, Coto Japanese Institute is scheduled to become a Ministry of Education–recognized Japanese language education institution in 2026. This means we will be able to support student visas for long-term study and finally open new opportunities for learners from around the world.
Available Programs at Coto Japanese Institute
Coto Japanese Institute offers structured one-year and long-term Japanese language programs with a strong career focus. Students study in brand-new, state-of-the-art facilities equipped with smart boards, a bespoke library, a community lounge, and extensive self-study resources.
1. Practical Japanese & Career Readiness
This beginner-level, one-year program is ideal for students with little to no prior Japanese study experience. The course builds a strong foundation in Japanese language skills, with students advancing to higher levels every three months.
2. Advanced Japanese Communication & Career Growth
This one-year program is designed for learners with a solid Japanese foundation (approximately JLPT N3 level). The course focuses on advanced communication, academic proficiency, and professional skills, preparing students to succeed in university studies, career opportunities, or deeper integration into Japanese society.

October 2026 Enrollment Open
Coto Japanese Institute offers enrollment for both April and October intakes. Pre-applications for the October 2026 intake are now open.
