Our Mission

At Coto Japanese Academy, we have one simple goal: we want students to enjoy their life with full of communication in Japan. All our classes are designed to create a fun casual environment for lessons that are focused on daily conversation skills.

Our Story:

Our original company, ILS (Iidabashi Language School), was founded in 2000 by four professional Japanese language teachers committed to volunteer teaching. That same commitment continues as we grow and expand as a school.
2007: Our ILS teaching team creates original teaching materials aimed at improving everyday communication
2009: ILS publishes the beginners’ edition of “Nihongo Fun and Easy,” which remains a core text for our program
2012: ILS offers Nihongo Plus–flexible group lessons based on our original teaching methods, and our signature 4-Week Intensive program, which concentrates on improving conversation skills.
2014: Our 14th year in business! Time for a new name!

Coto also means “things” in Japanese, not the those that can be seen. Learning, fun, challenges, growth; from hereon out we want to experience all these unseeable things with our students, together.
