Every month, with the exception of June, has a holiday. and with 20th March just around the corner lies Shunbun no Hi &#8211; the Spring Equinox Day, \u6625\u5206\u306e\u65e5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#What\">What is&nbsp;\u6625\u5206\u306e\u65e5 (Shunbun no Hi)?<\/a><br><a href=\"#Cultural\">Cultural Beliefs<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-shunbun-no-hi\">What is&nbsp;\u6625\u5206\u306e\u65e5 (Shunbun no Hi)?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u6625 is a Kanji character for spring and \u5206 is an ideogram&nbsp;meaning \u201cto divide\u201d. \u6625\u5206\u306e\u65e5 <a href=\"\/?p=76951\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">marks the end of winter<\/a> and start of spring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This national holiday&nbsp;was first established in 1948 for Japanese to welcome the spring. It was also meant as a way for them to appreciate the natural blooming after the winter. This day is part of a seven-day period known as \u6625\u306e\u5f7c\u5cb8, a&nbsp;celebration born during the Meiji Era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"Cultural\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Spring Equinox marks the changing of seasons, after which, days will eventually get longer while nights get shorter. Temperatures start&nbsp;to warm up and <a href=\"\/?p=77182\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cherry blossoms start to bloom. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, there are two days where the hours of light and hours of darkness are equivalent, namely Spring Equinox Day and Autumnal Equinox Day. Due to astronomical changes, Spring Equinox Day may fall on any of the dates ranging from 19 March to 22 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cultural-beliefs\">Cultural Beliefs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Buddhism, it&#8217;s believed that when the hours of light and darkness are equal, Buddha appears to help stray souls to cross the Sanzu River between the earthly world and Nirvana. On \u6625\u5206\u306e\u65e5, Japanese families offer flowers, pay respect to their ancestors\u2019 grave, offer food and clean the tombstones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They believed that by doing so, they&nbsp;help their ancestors in crossing the river. You could be surprised to learn in particular that Japanese people offer sake to their ancestors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the common food that they offer to their ancestors is a rice cake covered with bean powder, the \u307c\u305f\u3082\u3061.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cotoacademy.com\/app\/uploads\/2016\/03\/4489572285_215c276588_z.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cotoacademy.com\/app\/uploads\/2016\/03\/4489572285_215c276588_z.jpg\" alt=\"Celebrate Spring with the Japanese Holiday: \u6625\u5206\u306e\u65e5 (Shunbun no Hi)! \" class=\"wp-image-4015\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Around the Autumnal Equinox, \u307c\u305f\u3082\u3061 is named \u304a\u306f\u304e. Like for \u6625\u5206\u306e\u65e5, Japanese will visit their ancestor\u2019s grave.
