But did you know that the Japanese Silver Week, in fact, does not occur annually?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"p1 wp-block-heading\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">The Respect for the Aged Day And&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">On that day, the Japanese pay their respect to the elderly and celebrate long life. <ruby>\u656c\u8001<rp>\uff08<\/rp><rt>\u3051\u3044\u308d\u3046<\/rt><rp>\uff09<\/rp><\/ruby>\u306e<ruby>\u65e5<rp>\uff08<\/rp><rt>\u3072<\/rt><rp>\uff09<\/rp><\/ruby> was originally celebrated on the 15th, but recently changed to the third Monday of September. This calendar modification resulted from the introduction of the Happy Monday System (\u30cf\u30c3\u30d4\u30fc\u30de\u30f3\u30c7\u30fc<ruby>\u5236\u5ea6<rp>\uff08<\/rp><rt>\u305b\u3044\u3069<\/rt><rp>\uff09<\/rp><\/ruby>). This system moved a number of public holidays to Monday in order to create three-day weekends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cotoacademy.com\/app\/uploads\/2016\/09\/The-Japanese-Silver-Week.png\" alt=\"the-japanese-silver-week\" class=\"wp-image-5177\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"p1 wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Autumnal Equinox Day<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\"><ruby>\u79cb\u5206<rp>\uff08<\/rp><rt>\u3057\u3085\u3046\u3076\u3093<\/rt><rp>\uff09<\/rp><\/ruby>\u306e<ruby>\u65e5<rp>\uff08<\/rp><rt>\u3072<\/rt><rp>\uff09<\/rp><\/ruby> is a public holiday, generally occurring on the 22nd or the 23rd of September. This day commemorates the autumnal equinox. The exact date is&nbsp;announced the previous year, during the first week of February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cotoacademy.com\/app\/uploads\/2016\/09\/\u79cb\u5206\u306e\u65e5.jpg\" alt=\"The Japanese Silver Week\" class=\"wp-image-5176\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"p1 wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Citizens&#8217; Holiday<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">When a day falls between two national holidays, it then becomes an&nbsp;additional holiday known as&nbsp;<ruby>\u56fd\u6c11<rt>\u3053\u304f\u307f\u3093<\/rt><\/ruby>\u306e<ruby>\u4f11\u65e5<rt>\u304d\u3085\u3046\u3058\u3064<\/rt><\/ruby>, the citizens&#8217; holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8230; Give the&nbsp;Japanese Silver Week!&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">Every 5 or 6 years, thanks to an unusual occurrence, a weekend will be followed by the Respect <span class=\"s1\">for the Aged Day and the Autumnal Equinox Day, separated\u00a0by a Citizens&#8217; Holiday!\u00a0Balancing with the Golden Week (a\u00a0period of consecutive national holidays in late spring),\u00a0and in reference to the elderly&#8217;s gray hair, this week was called &#8220;Silver Week&#8221;.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">Despite its unusual occurrence, many Japanese naturally regard national holidays in September as Silver Week. The cosmos flowers called the cherry blossoms of autumn, are in full bloom, offering beautiful landscapes. Japanese often chose to take some days off around September&#8217;s national holidays to travel.
