That is what my supervisor told me when I started working over 20 years ago.

\nIs this common in your country?
\nNew employees don\u2019t get things explained to them and aren\u2019t allowed to ask lots of questions.
\n<\/i><\/span>They\u2019re supposed to learn their jobs by observing their supervisor and senior employees.
\n<\/i><\/span>
\nI wasn\u2019t apprenticed to some craftsman.
\nI was an ordinary company employee. <\/i>There was no manual, and it was difficult to ask questions.
\nThere was no way to learn the ropes. <\/i>It\u2019s a really inefficient system, right? Sobs<\/b>
\n<\/i><\/span>That\u2019s why I hated the idea of learning by stealing.
\n<\/i><\/span>
\nHowever, when it comes studying languages, I think that learning by stealing might be viable.
\n<\/i><\/span>I remember when I was taking English classes. I learned a lot by listening to the native teacher.
\n<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

But, this is what really helped me to improve my conversational skills: <\/i>Imitating my more advanced classmates.
\n<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n

\u201cSaying this makes you sound really fluent.\u201d
\n\u201cYou use this phrase at times like this.\u201d
\n<\/i><\/span>\u201cI see. I didn\u2019t realize that this phrase existed.\u201d
\n
\n<\/i><\/span>And so on. It\u2019s a lot easier to steal from someone who is closer to your level.
\n<\/i><\/span>If you aren\u2019t confident in your Japanese ability, then speaking with a native Japanese speaker is really difficult.
\n<\/i><\/span>
\nYou might have something to say, but you don\u2019t know the vocabulary.
\n<\/i><\/span>You don\u2019t know how to express your ideas.
\nBecause you\u2019re speaking slowly, the other person switches to English.
\n<\/i><\/span>The conversation doesn\u2019t last very long if you only use Japanese…
\n<\/i><\/span>
\nSo, you end up thinking, \u201cI\u2019ll just speak in English.\u201d
\nBefore that, why not try speaking more with your classmates?
\nYou can relax more than when you\u2019re speaking with a native speaker.
\nIt\u2019s just for practice, so it doesn\u2019t matter if you make mistakes.
\nThen one day, you can try what you\u2019ve learned with a native speaker to build your confidence.
\n<\/i><\/span>
\nSo, keep on stealing from your classmates to learn more.
\n<\/i><\/span>You can become fluent by effectively using the \u201cLearn by stealing!\u201d principle!
