In Japan, “rock paper scissors” is referred to as “\u3058\u3083\u3093\u3051\u3093”(Janken).
Although it is called different names in different places, the rules of the game are the generally same in every country.
In Japan – Rock, Paper, Scissors – or Janken is used to settle disagreements, select participants, and determine the order in which people will do something.  It is an important part of making friends with Japanese people – so you should really learn the nuances of how the Japanese play.

When it is a draw, it <\/span>is called<\/span><\/span> a \u3042\u3044\u3053(aiko).<\/span><\/p>\n

The way to to start the game. At the start of the game,  players will say<\/span>” \u6700\u521d\u306f\u30b0\u30fc”(Saishowaguu)<\/span> and show their fists at the same time. The literal meaning of \u6700\u521d\u306f\u30b0\u30fc is “Fists first”. This is to make sure that all players show their gestures at the same time so <\/span>as to<\/span><\/span> prevent any unfair play.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“\u6700\u521d\u306f\u30b0\u30fc” <\/span>was invented by<\/span><\/span> the famous comedian, Ken Shimura, in the variety show “8\u6642\u3060\u30e7!\u5168\u54e1\u96c6\u5408” (Hachijidayo! Zeninshuugou). It then spread across Japan and finally became a common practice.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It acts as a signal for the players to display their gestures. Players are to show their hands at the moment when they say <\/span>“\u307d\u3093”(pon)<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A draw in Japanese <\/span>is called<\/span><\/span> an <\/span>\u3042\u3044\u3053(aiko)<\/span>. If there are only 2 players, it will be a draw when both players display the same gesture. If there are 3 or more players, it will be a draw when all 3 gestures <\/span>are displayed<\/span><\/span>. When this happens, the players then chant <\/span>“\u3042\u3044\u3053\u3067\u3057\u3087”(aikodesho) <\/span>and display their hands again on <\/span>“\u3057\u3087”(sho)<\/span>. This continues until someone wins the game.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
