Knowing how to conjugate te versions of dictionary verbs is very important.  They are widely used in spoken Japanese and you must understand them in order to become fluent.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

 In this blog – we will show you what the 3 main groups of Japanese verbs are – and how to conjugate them into Te form.<\/span><\/div>\n

Japanese “Te” form Conjugation – Group 2<\/h2>\n

We will begin by introducing the  Second group: Ru-verbs<\/strong><\/p>\n

Words that end in ru, such as taberu (\u98df\u305f<\/rt><\/ruby>\u3079\u308b), or miru (\u898b\u307f<\/rt><\/ruby>\u308b) for example – belong to the group 2 verb class.  We can also call them “droppers.”<\/p>\n

As an example: Let’s look at the Japanese verb for eating – Taberu.<\/p>\n

The second group is very easy to conjugate.  You simply drop <\/strong>\u308b(ru)<\/strong> off the end of it and add <\/strong>\u3066(te)<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Miru becomes mite – and taberu becomes tabete.<\/p>\n

\"Group<\/a>Japanese “Te” form Conjugation – Group 3<\/h2>\n

The next Japanese verb group we will cover is 3rd group or “irregular verbs.” This group is the smallest as there are only two irregular verbs in Japanese.  <\/strong>These are both “ru” verbs – however they conjugate differently – which is why we call them irregular.<\/p>\n

The two irregular verbs in Japanese are:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u3059\u308b\u2192 to do.<\/p>\n

\u304f\u308b\u2192 to come.<\/p>\n

Irregular verbs are verbs that have exceptions to the \u3066<\/strong> form rules. Instead of simply dropping the ru and adding a te – they each have their own method.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Suru becomes shi te.  and kuru becomes ki te.<\/p>\n

\u3059\u308b\u2192 \u3057\u3066<\/p>\n

\u304f\u308b\u2192 \u304d\u3066<\/p>\n

For example:<\/p>\n

\u52c9\u5f37\u3059\u308b\u2192  \u52c9\u5f37\u3057\u3066<\/p>\n

\u96fb\u8a71\u3059\u308b \u2192  \u96fb\u8a71 \u3057\u3066<\/p>\n

\u9023\u308c\u3066\u304f\u308b \u2192  \u9023\u308c\u3066\u304d\u3066<\/p>\n

\u6301\u3063\u3066\u304f\u308b \u2192  \u6301\u3063\u3066\u304d\u3066<\/p>\n

This becomes easy to remember and use, just like the group 2, or dropper verbs.<\/p>\n

Finally, Let’s talk about our group 1 verbs or U-verbs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This group is also easy to remember – the only troublesome part to it is that there are quite a few of them.<\/p>\n

\"Group<\/a><\/p>\n

Japanese “Te” form Conjugation – Group 1<\/h2>\n

Group 1 verbs are usually referred to as U verbs, and they make up the largest group of Japanese verbs<\/p>\n

Group one verbs – U-verbs with final  <\/strong>\u3046<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u3064<\/strong> and <\/strong>\u308b<\/strong>. U, Tsu, and Ru<\/strong><\/p>\n

For example:<\/p>\n

To buy \u304b\u3046\u2192\u304b\u3063\u3066   Kau > Katte<\/p>\n

To wait \u307e\u3064\u2192\u307e\u3063\u3066     Matsu  > Matte<\/p>\n

To take (photo)\u3068\u308b\u2192\u3068\u3063\u3066    Toru  > Totte<\/p>\n

The above verbs are in dictionary form. The \u3072\u3089\u304c\u306a of dictionary form  \u3046  \u3064  \u308b abide by the same rules, erase the  \u3046,\u3064 and \u308b, add \u3063\u3066.<\/p>\n

\"Group<\/p>\n

Group 1 Te-form: \u98f2\u306e<\/rt><\/ruby>\u3080\u3001\u904a\u3042\u305d<\/rt><\/ruby>\u3076\u3001\u6b7b\u3057<\/rt><\/ruby>\u306c<\/h3>\n

Next, we have U-verbs that end in <\/strong>\u3080<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u3076<\/strong> and <\/strong>\u306c<\/strong>. Mu, Bu, and Nu<\/p>\n

For example:<\/p>\n

To drink \u306e\u3080 – Nomu<\/p>\n

To play \u3042\u305d\u3076 – Asobu<\/p>\n

To die \u3057\u306c – Shinu<\/p>\n

Verbs with \u3080,\u3076 and \u306c endings have the same rules.<\/p>\n

\u2193<\/p>\n

\u306e\u3080 \u2192 \u306e\u3093\u3067 — Nomu>Nonde<\/p>\n

\u3042\u305d\u3076 \u2192  \u3042\u305d\u3093\u3067  Asobu>Asonde<\/p>\n

\u3057\u306c \u2192 \u3057\u3093\u3067 Shinu>Shinde<\/p>\n

Except  \u3042\u305d\u3076 Asobu , there’s are only two other verbs that ends in \u3076 which is \u3068\u3076 Tobu (to fly.) \u3053\u308d\u3076 Korobu (to fall.)<\/p>\n

\u3057\u306c<\/strong> \u2192 <\/strong>\u3057\u3093\u3067<\/strong>  is the only verb that ends in <\/strong>\u306c<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Group I Te-form: \u66f8\u304b<\/rt><\/ruby>\u304f\u3001\u6cf3\u304a\u3088<\/rt><\/ruby>\u3050\u3001\u8a71\u306f\u306a<\/rt><\/ruby>\u3059<\/h3>\n

U-verbs that end in <\/strong>\u304f – Ku<\/strong><\/p>\n

For example:<\/p>\n

To write \u304b\u304f \u2192 \u304b\u3044\u3066<\/p>\n

U-verbs that end in <\/strong>\u3050 – Gu<\/strong><\/p>\n

To swim \u304a\u3088\u3050 \u2192 \u304a\u3088\u3044\u3067<\/p>\n

U-verbs that end in <\/strong>\u3059 – Su<\/strong><\/p>\n

To speak \u306f\u306a\u3059 \u2192 \u306f\u306a\u3057\u3066<\/p>\n

– – – – –<\/p>\n

There is only one exception.<\/p>\n

*To go \u3044\u304f \u2192  \u3044\u3063\u3066<\/p>\n

Because   \u3044\u304f \u2192  \u3044\u3044\u3066 is hard to pounce.<\/p>\n

For the Te-form first group, we have 10 U-verbs. 1 in 2nd group. 2 in 3rd group. In total – there are 13 rules associated with te form<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
